Founders of the ROK Energy, Mr. Hakkı Güz (B.Sc.E.E.E. (METU), MBA (ITU)), Mr. Serhat Anar (B.Sc. E.E. (I.T.U.), M.Sc.E.M. (ITU), MBA (ITU)) and Mr. Duran Nernekli (B.Eng.E.E.E. (Newcastle University), M.Eng.E.E.E. (Newcastle University)) managed organizations for many years with holding the executive responsibilities as the share holder and member of board. Within this period, over 200 EPC contracting projects were completed not limited with Turkey but also in countries such as Canada, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Libya. In addition to this, the manufacturing business of the company was established and the organization reached to the level of Top 500 largest manufacturer in Turkey and managed to export its products to over 50 countries in various continents around the world.
FOUNDATION
ROK Energy was founded in Istanbul/Turkey in order to provide high quality EPC contracting and engineering services with significant experience in global energy generation, transmission and distribution sector.
GENERATION PROJECT
The EPC Contract for Solar Generation Plant was completed and generation plant was successfully commissioned. In addition to domestic projects, ROK Energy was awarded EPC Contracts for the Projects in Iraq and Algeria.
ZERO ACCIDENT
EPC Contract for 400-132 kV By-Pass System of 1600 MW Chamchamal CCPP in Iraq was commissioned successfully with zero deaths, serious injuries and/or near miss. Only engineering services, provided by ROK Energy for the Project, exceeded 18.000 man-hours where total achieved manpower was over 100.000 man-hours. In addition to that contract in Algeria was successfully completed within this year. The new contract for 3 units of 220 kV substations in Afghanistan was awarded to ROK Energy.
GROWING INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Iraq branch office has been established in Erbil/Iraq. The EPC contract for 132 kV mobile substation was completed. The mobile substation is being used to provide energy for water pumping plant in Aghjillar in Iraq. In addition, ROK Energy completed two new solar power plant projects in Turkey. The EPC contract for 154 kV substation and 154 kV OHT Line of Turcas Kuyucak Geothermal Power Plant Project was awarded to ROK Energy.
SUCCESSFUL COMMISSIONS, NEW PROJECTS
The construction, EPC basis, of 154 kV Substation and 154 kV OHT Line of Turcas Kuyucak Geothermal Power Plant Project was completed and official provisional acceptance certificate was received successfully in 2017. Design process of 220 kV Khost, 220 kV Waza and 220 kV Gardez Substations in Afghanistan was completed. Control and Protection Systems of 220 kV Khost Substation were manufactured and transported. The contracts for the field design, partial supply, installation and test and commissioning of new excitation system of 3rd Unit in Kangal TEPP, awarded by Emerson, and design, supply, installation and test and commissioning of control and protection systems of power transformers in Kuyucak Geothermal Power Plant, awarded by Exergy, were other completed two contracts within 2017. The control and protection systems of existing 132 kV substation in Chamchamal CCPP in Iraq were replaced with latest technology and upgraded. Turnkey basis contract for supply of 400 kV Air Insulated Substation (Stage II) of Bismayah CCPP in Iraq and the contract for engineering and consultancy services for Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion Project Phase 13 Substations Package No 10 were signed in 2017. These contracts shall be completed in 2018.
3 COUNTRIES-3 SUCCESFUL COMMISIONS
In 2018, ROK received successfully completion certificates of three different projects in three different countries. The completed projects in 2018 were the construction, EPC basis, of 400 kV Air Insulated Substation (four sets of 400 kV step-up transformer feeders and two sets of 400 kV line feeders) of Bismiyah CCPP in Iraq, the contract for engineering and consultancy services within Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion Project Phase 13 Substations Package No 10 and the engineering and partial material supply contract for 220 kV Waza, Khost and Gardez Substations in Afghanistan.
LARGEST PROJECT in OUR HISTORY
In 2019, ROK ENERGY has been awarded the largest turnkey contract in our company history for the construction of 400/132 kV substation of Basmayeh CCPP (stage III) in Bagdad/Iraq. 400/132 kV substation shall consist of 11 (eleven) 132 kV feeders, 11 (eleven) 400 kV feeders and 2x500 MVA 400/132 kV autotransformers. Within the year, the following projects were completed and commissioned; extension of existing 132 kV substation of Erbil CCPP in Iraq, communication system of Erbil, Chamchamal and Dohuq CCP Plants in Iraq and communication system of Baadre TPP in Iraq. Commissioned systems are the communication systems between the power plants and national dispatch center of Ministry of Electricity, Erbil
DESPITE PANDEMIC
Despite of all the difficulties caused by the pandemic conditions all over the world, 400/132 kV substation, within the scope of the Basmayeh CCPP 3rd stage investment project, was completed on time by ROK Energy, in 2020. The fact that we were able to take measures to ensure that none of our employees got sick due to the corona virus, where we provided a workforce of 550,000 man-hours, and that we completed the project with zero work accidents will remain an important experiences and milestones in the history of ROK Energy.
FIRST PROJECT IN EUROPE
Within this year, ROK completed its first project in the mainland Europe. High voltage cable terminations engineering and test commissioning scope of works was completed successfully by ROK within Agios Nikolaos 860 MW CCPP project in Greece.
GEORGIA SUBSTATION CONTROL SYSTEMS
Within 2022, the first contract to be executed by ROK in Georgia was signed for secondary engineering design services and the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of control and protection systems, communication systems and substation control systems within 220/110 kV Lajanuri and Ozurgeti and 500 kV Akhaltsikhe substations. The high voltage mobile capacitor bank to be installed for the first time in Iraq will be performed by ROK. Related projects will be completed in 2023.
RETURN TO LIBYA
In the Libyan market, from which we had to leave in 2011, we signed a new contract in 2023 and returned to the brother country of Libya. It is aimed to quickly return our market share to pre-2011 levels.
